The Hornstrandir Nature Reserve was established in 1975 and covers the Hornstrandir region, part of the Jökulfirðir fjords and part of the district of Grunnavíkurhreppur. Social changes resulted in the abandonment of the region during World War II and in the post-war period. The panoramas are from Látravík, a lighthouse just west of Mt. Hornbjarg, one of the greatest seafowl abodes of Iceland with its highest peaks reaching 534 m above sea level.
