The reasons for making this site are several. First of all I understand the value of hands on experience as an earth science teacher. Interactive panoramas come pretty close to that. Secondly I believe that photographers are some of the best advocates for environmental protection. By showing us 3D unspoiled nature from all over the world panoramagraphers communicate the need for sustainable environment. Thirdly I want to show the world some beautiful new places in a different and exciting way.
QuickTime VR from Apple lets you spin around, look up and down and zoom in as if you were standing right there. There's nothing like an immersive 360 degree image to show all of what you want to see like you were on the spot. You get a totally new view of the world that regular pictures cannot reveal.
